Experience

“I started my career in the personal trust and asset management group of Bank One, Indianapolis. As an attorney trust officer, I managed investment portfolios of large trusts and estates. I continued my career with the international accounting firm of Ernst and Young, where I gained experience in executive compensation planning (including stock option and retirement plan distribution planning). I also earned proficiency in risk management assessment, estate and gift tax planning (including the transfer of closely held businesses), and general portfolio allocation. Prior to forming Pettinga Financial Advisors in 1994, I served as a Director for Oxford Financial Advisors, Registered Investment Advisor based in Indianapolis.

At Oxford, I served individual and institutional investment and financial planning clients throughout Indiana.  I established Pettinga Financial in 1994 when my wife, Gayle, and I decided to move from Indianapolis to her home city of Evansville.”

Personal Philosophy

“I have a fascination for economics, and take great pleasure in helping people achieve their life financial goals.  I believe people deserve an honest relationship with a financial advisor they can trust.  I enjoy being in a position where I can be that advisor.

I developed an affinity for the turtle from my father.  My dad had a collection of turtle art, different kinds of paperweights for the most part.  My dad came from humble roots and became a successful executive at Eli Lilly and Company.  Despite his success, he remained a very down-to-earth individual.  The turtle reminded him that diligence, hard work, and dedication to the job at hand was the recipe for success.

I learned through years of personal and professional experience that steady performance based on sound principles is the best way to build a successful business.  With that in mind, I decided to adopt the turtle as a tool we could use to reflect the principles guiding our firm.  That is why the turtle image is associated with our firm.”
